Château d’Yquem 2023 — An Apotheosis
On February 10th, during a private evening at Musée Bourdelle, the 2023 vintage of Château d’Yquem was not simply presented.
It was interpreted.
A composition had been written for this vintage.
The violin began.
The harp answered.
Their notes rose along the stone walls,
brushed against silent marble,
and slowly filled the hall with something almost sacred.
Then — stillness.
Not emptiness, but suspension.
As if time itself had paused to listen.
This is what a great wine can do.
Not simply impress —
but change the rhythm of a moment.
Vintage 2023 has been described as
the depth of 2022 united with the precision of 2021.
In the glass, it feels intentional.
Luminous gold, radiant yet weightless.
Apricot. Peach. Mandarin.
Then honey, white blossoms, fine spice —
unfolding with restraint.
Yquem does not declare its strength.
It reveals it.
Sweetness is generous, yet never heavy.
Acidity is exact, architectural —
holding everything in equilibrium.
Not sweetness that overwhelms.
But sweetness that has been placed.
The texture is dense, yet alive.
Power rests quietly at the center.
Concentration gives breadth;
freshness draws the lines.
Like violin and harp —
distinct, yet perfectly aligned.
When the final note dissolved,
the wine remained.
Sweetness stepped back.
Brightness endured.
What lingers is not sugar —
but vibration.
And in that suspended instant, you understand:
Yquem has never been only about sweetness.
It is the art of balance —
between richness and light,
between power and serenity.
A quiet resonance that lasts
long after the music fades,
long after the hall falls silent —
and even when the glass stands empty.
